I have always enjoyed reading Bill Fulton's newsletter on California planning issues, the California Planning and Development Report (CP&DR). This week he had a very interesting blog posting on why a 2-hour commute can be considered a public policy success. With that title I had to read it!

Hello (Railway) Kitty!
There was a great article on the Wired news feed about a cat that has caused a huge increase in railway ridership on a Japanese branch line. Maybe we need more cats to revitalize railways! Hello Kitty!
The story is called: Cat Lures Passengers Back to Japanese Railway.

More Free Stuff
Paul Krugman in his column today describes how much digital content will be free and how that may impact the publishing business. He discussed ideas similar to the Wired article by Chris Anderson I referred to in a blog post on March 5, 2008.
Krugman's last line: "But in the long run, we are all the Grateful Dead." might be better as, "But in the long run, we are all the Grateful Dead, at least those still living!"
